Alchemy Studio Ceramics with Amy Halko

    During our Open Studio hours, experienced potters have full access to work on personal projects. Firings will be dependent on the amount of finished work each week.

Exploring Surface Decoration and Glazing - A Two Class Workshop

JUNE 15th and 22nd from 9:00 - 11:30 AM

Tuition: $225.00

In this workshop students will learn surface decorating techniques. The first class will focus on decorating leather hard tiles with underglaze, multiple resist techniques, mishima, sgraffito, making templates for decorating and more. Students will use both Laguna Speckled Stoneware and B-Mix.

The following class will focus on glaze techniques. All tiles will be fired and available for pick up within two weeks.

Please bring any interesting textured items or imagery you are interested in exploring.

No experience needed.


HOW TO: Use Darts to Alter Form

June 15 from 12:00-1:30

Tuition: $95.00

Learn how to use darts to reshape simple forms into new, more dynamic forms. This is a short, hands-on skill building workshop for those who want to take their work to the next level. There will be time to practice these skills, but students will not keep anything in the end.

These techniques can be used on slab built or wheel thrown forms.

Some experience with clay is strongly recommended.


HOW TO: Slab Build a Lidded Container

July 13 9:00-11:30

Tuition: $150.00

In this workshop students will learn how to make slab built containers with a fitted lid. We will explore using texture and pattern for decoration, and underglaze for color. Containers will be glazed with a clear gloss and available for pick up within two weeks.

No experience necessary.

 
 

 Amy Halko

Amy Halko is a studio potter in Cleveland, Ohio. Currently she teaches
ceramics at Alchemy Studio, Cuyahoga Community College, The Cleveland Institute of Art, and Orange Art Center. Amy has taught numerous workshops throughout the US, was a visiting artist at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China and a resident artist at The Archie Bray Foundation. Together with fellow artists she founded The Dallas Pottery Invitational in Texas, and Clay Wood Cloth in Sonoma County to celebrate the beauty of handmade objects and support the artists who make them. Her work is in several collections and is shown nationally. Amy received a BFA in Ceramics and Drawing from Bowling Green State University and an MFA in Ceramics at The Ohio State University.
